During Gary Job Corps recent local community involvement they shared Father’s Day cards from Little Britches Learning Academy with San Marcos Nursing and Rehab, shared a token of appreciation for the partnership between Gary Center and Texas Department of Criminal Justice and lead the 24th Annual Juneteenth Parade from the Dunbar Center to Rio Vista Park.

Gary Job Corps staff, students, and Community Relations Council members gave out cookies and Father’s Day cards from Little Britches Learning Academy to the residents of the San Marcos Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

For over 5 years Gary Job Corps Community Relations Council members have partnered in spreading cheer at local nursing homes during Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Gary Job Corps Partnership with
Texas Department of Criminal Justice

The partnership between the Gary Job Corps Corrections program and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice was established in January 2003. Currently there are 13 graduates that employed at the TDCJ Wallace Unit in Colorado City, Texas. 

Linda Gonzales, Senior Warden with TDCJ Wallace Unit, stated that she was impressed by the caliber of graduate that she has employed and looks forward to assisting with future graduates in seeking employment with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. 

Gary Job Corps Center Director Patty Lankford presented Warden Gonzales with a token of appreciation for her partnership with the Gary Center. Correctional Officers from the Wallace Unit accompanying Warden Gonzales visiting the Gary Job Corps Center were graduates, Sgt. Tanner Mortensen, Glenda Thompson, and Jevea Shelby. 

TDCJ operates over 100 correctional institutions, to date over 600 Corrections graduates are working throughout the state.

Gary Job Corps Shows Their Support for
San Marcos’ 24th Annual Juneteenth Celebration

Gary Job Corps Student Government Association lead the 24th Annual Juneteenth Parade from the Dunbar Center to Rio Vista Park.  Since 2001 the Gary Job Corps Center staff and students have supported the efforts of the Juneteenth Foundation in ensuring the success of the parade, cook-off, and two day activities. 

Over 20 cooks competed in youth pork chops, fajitas, beans, chicken, baby back ribs, spare ribs, cook’s choice, brisket, cobbler, and margarita competitions.  Pictured in group picture, Constable David Peterson (event organizer), Constable Michael Torres, Homewood Suites Monica Ybarra, Cook off participants, volunteers, and Gary Job Corps Corrections/Security Cadets providing crowd and traffic control.
