For the 11th consecutive year, Hays County Food Bank is offering Hays County residents in need a holiday meal box filled with traditional holiday foods.
These boxes offer families a chance to gather around a home-cooked dinner, prepared themselves, surrounded by their families and friends.
This year, the food bank is letting Hays County residents and those displaced by a natural disaster to Hays County, the opportunity to register online, in-person, or by phone throughout September.
The food bank hopes that through this new method of offering registration, even more people in need will be made aware of the services they provide.
In order to qualify to receive a Holiday Meal Box or general food bank services, you must:
Reside in Hays County
Have a household income at or below the 185% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Or participate in one of the following government assistance programs:
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program),
TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families),
SSI (Supplemental Security Income),
NSLP (National School Lunch Program), or
Medicaid,
Or have a temporary food emergency due to a natural disaster (hurricane, fire, etc.).

Registration for a holiday meal box can be done online at http://bit.ly/TurkeyBox or by visiting HaysFoodBank.org and clicking on the link on the homepage. Registration will be open until 11:59 p.m. on September 30th.

Individuals can also register in-person in September at any of the food bank’s public distribution sites:

Monday – United Campus Ministry – 510 N. Guadalupe St., San Marcos – 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday – St. Anthony’s Catholic Church – 801 Burleson St., Kyle – 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday – Immanuel Baptist Church – 4000 E. FM 150, Kyle – 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday – Dunbar Recreation Center – 801 MLK Dr., San Marcos – 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Thursday – Christ the Rock Church – 120 Ebony St., San Marcos – 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Thursday – Martindale First United Methodist Church – 308 Bowie St., Martindale – 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The food bank will also help with in-person sign-ups during the final week in September from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Broadway Bank locations throughout Hays County.

In 2016, Hays County Food Bank and its 20+ partner agencies distributed 679,456 pounds of food to an average of 8,500 food insecure residents each month. These residents were senior citizens, children, and many others facing economic challenges. “Food insecurity” refers to the availability of food and one’s access to it.
