Buda, Texas – Texas Lehigh Cement Company LP presented a check to the Hays County Food Bank as a platinum sponsor of “The White Party” benefitting the Food Bank Aug. 11 at Nate’s at Buda Mill and Grain.
Texas Lehigh employees started the campaign, recognizing the important safety-net service the Food Bank provides for local residents. The company then matched the amount raised by the employee campaign, for a total of $5,884.
“The Hays County Food Bank delivers hundreds of thousands of pounds of food every year to area residents, including senior citizens, children and others facing economic challenges,” said Neil Hodgson, President of Texas Lehigh Cement. “We are honored to be able to give this check to the Food Bank to help them in their fight against hunger.”
Hodgson pointed to recent statistics that show 1 out of 7 Hays County residents are food insecure — meaning they lack access to affordable, nutritious food. The summer months are especially challenging when children are out of school and lack access to the free or reduced- priced meals offered during the academic year. In fact, the Hays County Food Bank recently announced that it was “dangerously low” on food items.
“Texas Lehigh is a part of this community,” Hodgson said. “We are proud to serve the citizens of Buda and Hays County, which we call home.”
