Hays County Jail Inmate Outsourcing Costs Continue Rise

On Tuesday, Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra presented the Hays County Inmate Outsourcing costs rise over $4,000 for the week of April 21 thru April 27.

The Hays County Jail’s daily average of inmates was 533 with a peak of 542 inmates on April 25. Two-hundred and seven males and three females were outsourced to Bell, Burnet, Caldwell, McLennan, Limestone and Walker Counties.

The cost of outsourcing inmates is estimated to be $73,979, $4,303 more than the county spent the week of April 14 thru April 20.

The county’s inmate population and outsourcing costs on a week to week basis have been on the rise the last few weeks.

For the week of April 14, the county had a daily average of 532 inmates with a peak of 542 on April 18. The county outsourced 199 male inmates and 3 female inmates to Bell, Burnet, Caldwell, McLennan, Limestone and Walker Counties for a cost of $69,676.

During the week of April 7 thru April 11, the county jail had a daily average inmate population of 513 with a peak of 529 on April 11. Outsourcing 186 males and 3 females to the above counties cost the county $64,418.

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra noted the rise in costs and inmates; no other remarks were made on the subject.
