In a hearing on Thursday, motions to reduce bond in the Wilson Molinares manslaughter case, Judge Jack Robison set bonds in each of the four counts of manslaughter at $175,000, with conditions including that Mr. Molinares be prohibited from driving a car, have both his location and any alcohol consumption monitored electronically, and that he surrender his passport and driver’s license.
This ruling came after testimony from Mr. Molinares’s mother and a family friend regarding his inability to post the $250,000-per-count bonds previously set, and from Kyle Police Lt. Andre Marmolejo about the circumstances of the offense, in which four people were killed on February 19, 2016, in a head on collision apparently cause by Mr. Molinares’s traveling the wrong way down I-35 in Kyle.
Judge Robison added the conditions preventing Mr. Molinares from drinking or driving a vehicle while on bond at the request of Hays County Criminal District Attorney Wes Mau. After the hearing, Mau told reporters, “I know that Judge Robison shares my concern for the safety of the community.” Mau also said that the number and nature of the charges that will be formally filed against Mr. Molinares would not be determined until a Hays County grand jury has reviewed the case.
