On November 10, 2019, at approximately 5:45 AM, The Hays County Sheriff’s Office’s Repeat Offender Unit arrested Jesus Rocha-Alvarez, 33, of Buda.
Rocha-Alvarez was wanted for the sexual assault of a 14-year old girl and had been on the run for nearly a week. The unit tracked him down to an apartment complex in the 300 block of East Slaughter Lane in Austin early Sunday where he was taken into custody without incident.
The manhunt was made more difficult after deputies learned Rocha-Alvarez had received aid and support in his efforts to evade his arrest.
On Thursday evening, deputies tracked down the suspect’s black BMW to a residential address in the 1100 block of Haleys Way in Buda.
Deputies discovered the homeowner, Michael Joseph Villarreal, 43, gave Rocha-Alvarez a place to stay and transportation to Austin the previous night. Further investigation revealed Rocha-Alvarez’s father, Jesus Fernandez-Alvarez, 58, of Buda, had been organizing his son’s flight from justice.
The aid and support provided to Rocha-Alvarez resulted in two additional arrests. Villarreal was booked into the Hays County Jail on Saturday on a single count of Interference with Public Duties. He was released on a $5,000 PR bond.
Fernandez-Alvarez was arrested Sunday evening on a single count of Hindering Apprehension, a felony. He was booked into the Hays County Jail and is awaiting bond.
