HCLHD continues vaccinating those on its pre-registration list

Hays County, TX – Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) continues vaccinating those on its pre-registration list. Per the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), individuals who qualify under the 1A and 1B guidelines can sign up to receive a vaccine.

According to Mike Jones, Hays County Office of Emergency Services (OES) Director, about 8,000 people have signed up under the County’s 1A list thus far. An additional 43,000 people signed up on the 1B list. According to DSHS Hays County has fully vaccinated (e.g., first and second doses completed) 15,081 people.

Jones said some good news this week is that education and childcare personnel are now able to receive the vaccine, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services directive issued on March 2.

“Based on recently released federal and DSHS guidelines, teachers, school district employees, and childcare workers are now considered eligible under the 1B rules,” he said.

He added that education and childcare personnel still need to sign up on the 1B pre-registration list, which they can do at www.haysinformed.com.

In other vaccine news, Hays County Health Department Director Tammy Crumley said more doses will be headed to her department, which will allow more people to be vaccinated.

“According to DSHS, we will receive 4,680 doses weekly,” she said.

Officials remind the public that vaccine distribution in Hays County is by appointment only. OES Director Mike Jones said individuals will be notified about the details.

“We are using phone, text, and email messaging to notify people of their appointments,” he said. “We want to remind people to check their email spam folder and voicemail to make sure they don’t miss the information.”

Jones said another option for those on the Hays County pre-registration list is the mass vaccination program at the Circuit of the Americas, a collaboration between Travis, Hays, Caldwell, and Bastrop Counties.

“Hays County will provide names from our sign-up list and the doses will come from another vaccine hub,” he said. “That means more people will have the opportunity to get a vaccine.”

For those on the pre-registration list, the process should be seamless.

“When we have an opening, individuals on the list will receive an email with all the appointment details. They should then arrive at the location on the date and time provided.”

He reminded those signing up on the Hays County Pre-registration list to carefully enter their email address on the online form as many have bounced back as incorrect.
