“Cat in the Hat” Celebration

Gary Job Corps students and staff celebrated Dr. Seuss’ Birthday by reading for the students at the Texas Preparatory School.

Students have participated in the Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration, started by the National Education Association (NEA), for the past 5 years by reading at Travis and Bowie Elementary in addition to the Texas Preparatory School.

Twenty years ago, the NEA decided to do something big to get kids excited about reading. They called it “Read Across America.”

Launched and celebrated annually on Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2nd, it was – and still is – the largest celebration of reading this country has ever seen.

Kyle Chamber of Commerce Shamrock Shuffle 5K

Gary Job Corps students and staff volunteered at the Kyle Chamber of Commerce Shamrock Shuffle 5K Run/Walk held at Wallace Elementary in Kyle, TX.

Over 200 runners and 36 business sponsors made the event a success. For the past 5 years the Kyle Chamber has sponsored 5K runs such as the Resolution Run and the Kyle-o-Meter. The Shamrock Shuffle will be the signature run event for the year.

Students and staff from the Gary Job Corps Center have been volunteering with the City of Kyle and the Kyle Chamber for years, assisting with the Market Days, Kyle Chamber Health Expo, Business to Business Expo, Pie in the Sky Celebrations, and 5K runs.
