“Cat in the Hat” Celebration

Gary Job Corps students and staff celebrated Dr. Seuss’ Birthday by reading for the students at the Texas Preparatory School.

Students have participated in the Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration, started by the National Education Association (NEA), for the past 5 years by reading at Travis and Bowie Elementary in addition to the Texas Preparatory School.

Twenty years ago, the NEA decided to do something big to get kids excited about reading. They called it “Read Across America.”

Launched and celebrated annually on Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2nd, it was – and still is – the largest celebration of reading this country has ever seen.
