SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE: Thunderstorm and hail warning in Hays County

HAYS COUNTY — The National Weather Service in Austin, San Antonio, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Texas until 4:45 p.m. with the storm continuing over the area until 8 p.m.

At 4:05 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over San Marcos moving Northeast at 15 mph. The NWS says that radar indicates 60 mph wind gusts and possible nickel-size hail in Hays County and the surrounding area. The anticipated impact includes damage to roofs, siding and trees.

According to the LWS, locations of impact include San Marcos, the San Marcos Regional Airport, Kyle, Wimberley, Canyon Lake, Martindale, New Braunfels, Uhland, Kingsbury, Niederwald, Staples, Zorn, Mountain City, Hunter, Maxwell, Reedville, Sattler, Redwood and Hays City.

For your protection, the NWS suggests that affected central Texas residents move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
