Who We Are

We are committed to living, working, and delivering your local news every day with High Standards, Code of Ethics, and Mission, which can be found here.

OUR CENTRAL TEXAS REGION

As many of you may already know, Hays County, and in particular San Marcos, has been named the fastest-growing area in the United States for 2012, 2013, and 2014.

San Marcos’ location along IH-35 within the centralized area of Hays County in Texas is only part of the reason we have been nicknamed the “The Innovation Corridor.”

THE DRIVING FORCES OF THE INNOVATION CORRIDOR

Texas State University and the Greater San Marcos Partnership, and Hays County are the driving forces behind the given name of “The Innovation Corridor.”

These entities have the foresight and passion for playing an integral role in positioning our region as the indisputable “Innovation Corridor,” and Corridor News strives every day to do our part to live up to this concept.

LOCAL PRIDE

Our entire team is local, from our Web Designer, Reporters, Columnists, Managing Editor, and Publisher.

We live here, work here, raise our children here; we even attend school here, volunteer our time, spend our money here, and participate actively as members of this community. What affects your life affects ours.Melissa Jewett

OUR TEAM

Sierra Martin, Managing Editor

Sierra grew up in Reno, Nevada before moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area with her family. As soon as she visited San Marcos to attend college at Texas State University, she fell in love with the beauty of the Texas hill country and the people who reside there. Early on in her college career, Sierra was originally going to school to earn a degree in nursing. She quickly learned that she wanted to follow her true passion, writing and journalism.

Writing is Sierra’s passion, growing up she could never put down a good book. As she grew older, she became fascinated with reading articles from journalists all over the world, learning about their lives, cultures and communities. Writing is how Sierra expresses herself, and becoming a journalist became her dream during her sophomore year of college when she found she couldn’t go a day without reading the news. In her free time, Sierra enjoys writing poetry, spending days on the river, and playing with her cats and frisbee-crazed dog.

Sierra was a writer for the University Star, Texas State University’s newspaper, and won the Newcomer of the Year award in 2019 for her work at the campus paper. Her experience at the University Star has showcased her writing skills and abilities as she looks to further her journalism career. Sierra graduated from Texas State with a major in Journalism in Dec. 2020 and accepted a position as Managing Editor in Feb. 2021.

You can reach Sierra by email at Sierra@SMCorridorNews.com. Or, if you have a news tip or would like to submit a story idea, email it to News@SMCorridorNews.com.

SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization’s details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the HTTPS protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. Typically, SSL is used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer, and logins, and more recently, it is becoming the norm when securing social media sites’ browsing.

Do we use ‘cookies’?
Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. For instance, we use cookies to help us remember and process the items in your shopping cart. California Online Privacy Protection Act
CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law’s reach stretches well beyond California to require a person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites collecting personally identifiable information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals with whom it is being shared, and to comply with this policy. – See more at http://consumercal.org/california-online-privacy-protection-act-caloppa/#sthash.0FdRbT51.dpuf.

According to CalOPPA, we agree to the following:

  • Users can visit our site anonymously.
  • Once this privacy policy is created, we will add a link to it on our home page, or as a minimum, on the first significant page after entering our website.
  • Our Privacy Policy link includes the word ‘Privacy’ and can be easily be found on the page specified above.
  • Users will be notified of any privacy policy changes: On our Privacy Policy Page.

How can you change your personal information?
By emailing us at info@smcorridornews.com

How does our website handle do not track signals?
We honor do not track signals and do not track plant cookies, or use advertising when a Do Not Track (DNT) browser mechanism is in place.

Does our site allow third-party behavioral tracking?
It’s also important to note that we do not allow third-party behavioral tracking COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act). When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under 13, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, the nation consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what websites and online services operators must do to protect children’s privacy and safety online. We do not specifically market to children under 13.

Fair Information Practices
The Fair Information Practices Principles form the backbone of privacy law in the United States. The concepts they include have played a significant role in developing data protection laws around the globe. Understanding the Fair Information Practice Principles and how they should be implemented is critical to comply with the various privacy laws that protect personal information.

To be in line with Fair Information Practices, we will take the following responsive action should a data breach occur:

  • We will notify the users via in-site notification or
  • Other and
  • As soon as we are informed

Additionally, we agree to the individual redress principle, which requires that individuals have a right to pursue legally enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law. This principle requires that individuals have enforceable rights against data users and that individuals have recourse to courts or a government agency to investigate and/or prosecute non-compliance by data processors.

CAN-SPAM Act
The CAN-SPAM Act is a law that sets the rules for commercial email, establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have emails stopped from being sent to them, and spells out tough penalties for violations.
