Jovita Ross-Gordon Honored With 2018 Cyril O. Houle Award

The award was established in 1981 to honor the scholarship and memory of Cyril O. Houle, professor of adult education at the University of Chicago.

SAN MARCOS – Jovita M. Ross-Gordon, a professor in the Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education and School Psychology at Texas State University, has been honored with the 2018 Cyril O. Houle Award by the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE).

Ross-Gordon was honored, along with her co-authors, Amy D. Rose of Naperville, Illinois, and  Carol E. Kasworm of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, for their  book, Foundations of Adult and Continuing Education.

The Houle Award recognizes persons who have made outstanding contributions to literature in adult education. The award was established in 1981 to honor the scholarship and memory of Cyril O. Houle, professor of adult education at the University of Chicago.

It is given annually by the AAACE for a book published in English in the previous year that reflects universal concerns of adult educators. Nominated works exemplify outstanding literature in adult education.

Ross-Gordon is a professor of adult education at Texas State. Her research centers on teaching and learning of adults, focusing particularly on adult learners in higher education and on issues of diversity and equity.

Ross-Gordon is co-author of The Foundations of Adult and Continuing Education, co-editor of The Handbook of Adult Continuing Education: 2010 Edition and author or co-author of numerous articles and book chapters on adult and continuing education.

She currently serves as co-editor-in-chief for the New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education series. Her recent honors include induction into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame and the Career Achievement Award of the Commission of Professors of Adult Education.
