San Marcos, TX – San Marcos’ original Mardi Gras Krewe – the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos – and the Price Center are teaming up to host a workshop on Sat. Feb, 1 from 10 – 11:30 a. m. for area kids interested in learning how to create a shoebox float to enter into a new fun, festive and friendly competition.
“We wanted to make sure local children could easily get in on the Mardi Gras fun through a creative project that helps them experience a new cultural celebration while playing with feathers, beads, glue and their imaginations,” said Ann Dupont, contest chair.
The Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest will include two categories: Children age 3-6 (with an adult partner) and Children age 7-12. Judges will use the following criteria to make the awards: Originality (30%), Neatness (15%), Overall Appearance (15%), Craftsmanship (20%) and Use of Materials (20%). A complete list of contest rules and more is available at http://mistickkreweofokeanos.com/parade/shoe_box_float_competition/.
Winners will be selected and announced during the Krewe’s Feb. 7 Cottage Kitchen Luncheon, will receive a Kid-friendly gift basket and VIP seating and recognition at the Price Center’s Mardi Gras Parade Watch & Pop-Up set for Feb 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., in the Garden and street-side.
