Living Outside the Lines: “Obsessed with Wonder Woman”

I believe it fair to say, I am not alone in my obsession!  The newest DC Comics movie, Wonder Woman (of course!) opened June 1 taking in $97.1 million dollars!!

Bandwagons, I try to avoid them, preferring instead to do my own thinking.  I always find it humorous though when a long-time obsession of mine “suddenly” becomes mainstream.  Wonder Woman is a perfect example.

Created by writer William Moulton Marston and artist Harry G. Peter, Wonder Woman, or Diana, Princess of Themyscira, Daughter of Hippolyta, made her first DC Comics appearance in 1941.

Being born in 1967 myself, I did not make her acquaintance until years later.  Once I did, however, she instantly skyrocketed to my favorite super hero and has held the coveted spot ever since.

The Wonder Woman television series starring Lynda Carter debuted on CBS in 1975 and ran until 1979.  Looking back, I think perhaps, much of who I am can be traced back to that one television show.  After all, we are both known as warrior princesses.  #smile

Even as a pre-teen, I recognized that Wonder Woman aka Lynda Carter was gorgeous!! A 5’9” blue-eyed brunette, who looked flawless in her super hero costume, the woman was #smokinhot!!!

This woman was strong.  She was confident.  She was intelligent.  She was genuine.  She had a magic lasso of truth, bracelets of submission to protect her, an invisible airplane, a tiara that could be used as a weapon, fabulous high-heeled boots, AND she could change clothes just by spinning around, what girl wouldn’t want to emulate her?

Despite the ebbs and flows of her mainstream popularity, my obsession with Wonder Woman never paled.

Almost every Halloween of my adulthood I’ve wanted to be Wonder Woman, but never felt confident enough to attempt the somewhat scanty and revealing costume in a public forum.  Is there a matronly version somewhere???

My Wonder Woman collection currently includes a Wonder Woman baseball style tee, Wonder Woman pint glass, Wonder Woman high top Converse, Wonder Woman no show socks, Wonder Woman tube socks, Wonder Woman key ring, Wonder Woman shaker cup, Wonder Woman postage stamps, and Wonder Woman magnets.

I am still in the market for a Wonder Woman tank top, Wonder Woman Yeti, Wonder Woman bikini, Wonder Woman address labels, Wonder Woman running tights, Wonder Woman earrings and Wonder Woman stationery.

I believe it fair to say, I am not alone in my obsession!  The newest DC Comics movie, Wonder Woman (of course!) opened June 1 taking in $97.1 million dollars!!

That’s a lot of George’s for an Amazonian super hero!  The box office smash, directed by Patty Jenkins, which stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, is expected to easily surpass $100 million in box office sales!!!

Always wanting to do our part to fuel the economy my husband and I decided to help Patty, Gal and Chris hit $100 million in sales!! We’d discussed going to see the movie during opening weekend, but life happened and I thought we’d have to wait.

However, my dear, sweet, do anything for me husband, surprised me by purchasing tickets for the Sunday afternoon show at the Cinemark in Corpus.

There is a small theater in Beeville, but after watching movies at “The Spot” in San Marcos with its reclining leather seats and tableside service, I’m a bit spoiled.

No big surprise, Gal Gadot did not disappoint, and my Wonder Woman obsession lives on!!  Hopefully I’ll get some fun super hero swag for my next birthday.  #winkwink

Until Next Time,
