Local Youth Making A Difference

San Marcos High School’s Air Force JROTC Donates to HCWC

At the start of each year, the Air Force JROTC Corps Commander and her staff sit down to discuss which service activities they will support.

This year, there were several Cadets who had received services from HCWC in the past.  Consequently, our Corps Commander, Cadet Col/Megan Simmons selected the HCWC as one of our primary service activities for this semester.

To raise awareness for Teen Domestic Violence, the Cadets partnered with local law enforcement agencies to pass out flyers and talk to people at the SMHS Rattler Football Game.

They also organized a party with a purpose, the “Boo Bash 4 Cash.”  All proceeds from this Halloween dance were donated to the HCWC.  And finally, during the month of October, the Cadets held an Air Force JROTC competition to collect toiletries and other items for HCWC.

The AFJROTC “Team Delta” won First Place in that competition and together the cadets collected over $2,500 in cash and supplies in support of the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center.  The motto of Air Force JROTC:  “Developing citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.”
