LWV Of Hays County Join Forces In San Marcos Today For ‘One Month Until Senate Bill 4 Forum’

The panel will hear from civic leaders, including local law enforcement, San Marcos school representatives, political officials, Texas State University faculty, students, and staff, community advocates, and others.

Roughly four weeks remain until the nation’s most severe law impacting the immigrant community takes effect in Texas, SB 4.

Although law enforcement, business leaders, faith bodies and civil rights groups have decried SB 4— nicknamed “show me your papers” law—still others advocate for the removal of all unauthorized immigrants from our communities, arguing that traffic infractions and casual police stops are acceptable ways of identifying immigrants for detention and deportation.

The League of Women Voters of Hays County & LULAC #654 will host a community forum at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos, 211 Lee Street, Monday, July 31 at 7 pm concerning the upheaval that may occur in a month’s time, Sept. 1, as the Lone Star State implements this anti-immigrant law.

The panel will hear from civic leaders, including local law enforcement, San Marcos school representatives, political officials, Texas State University faculty, students, and staff, community advocates, and others.

Key community groups impacted by this radical policy shift will discuss planned responses & educational resources will be provided.  The ONE MONTH UNTIL SB 4 forum will be free & open to the public and welcomes all viewpoints.
