A San Marcos CISD student has been accepted into a selective summer math program hosted by Mathworks, the center for math education at Texas State University.
Middle school student Gabriel Ortiz (Miller Middle School, 8th grade) will be attending the Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC) program, held on the Texas State campus. The HSMC program includes 60 high school students each summer, and this year’s acceptance rate was only 25%. Students in the program develop their creative and critical thinking skills through mathematical problem solving. This six-week program also gives high school school students early experiences in college life at Texas State. Gabriel Ortiz also attended the two-week Residential Junior Summer Math Camp the past two years.
In addition, there are close to 75 other SMCISD students registered for the annual half-day Junior Summer Math Camp program, a day camp Mathworks holds in partnership with SMCISD. This two-week program for 4th-8th grade students helps them to develop a strong foundation in pre-algebra and algebra. The half-day JSMC will be held at San Marcos High School this coming June 6 – 17
