Murder suspect in police custody

The Seguin Police Department (SPD) has reported the capture of the murder suspect, 20-year-old Draven Rene Reyes of Seguin.

On April 12, 2022, at approximately 11:20 a.m. the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Reyes on the East Side of San Antonio for an active arrest warrant out of Seguin for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Murder. Reyes was transported to Guadalupe County Jail on a $2,000,000 bond.  

On April 4, 2022, the SPD responded to the 600 block of N Vaughan Ave (Park West) for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found a male (18, Seguin) and a female (18, Seguin) with gunshot wounds. The male was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The female, identified to be Maekalyn Ann Marie Smith, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Justice of the Peace Judge Sachtleben.

The SPD Criminal Investigation Division began investigating the incident. Through the ongoing investigation, Detectives discovered Reyes, Christanio Soto (21, Seguin), and Sahra Vega (21, Seguin) drove by the park and Reyes fired multiple rounds at Smith and a male as they sat near the basketball court at Park West. 

An arrest warrant was obtained for Reyes for one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Murder on April 4, 2022 which was issued by Judge Sachtleben, who set bond at $2,000,000 total. An arrest warrant was obtained for Vega and Soto for one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Murder on April 6, 2022 which was issued by Judge Darrell Hunter, who set bond at $1,000,000 total. Vega and Soto were taken into custody on April 6, 2022.

“Seguin Police Department would like to thank the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Guadalupe County Constables Pct. 1, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, Guadalupe County Narcotics Task Force, and United States Customs and Border Protection for their assistance in this investigation,” the City of Seguin shared in a press release.

Investigations regarding the multiple shots fired calls will continue, and more arrests are anticipated. A correction was made to this article to correct the name of the judge who set the bond amount for Draven Rene Reyes.
