Nearly 40 San Marcos Cafes, Shops, Galleries & Eateries Call On City Council To Fight SB 4 In Court 

From July 10-16, conscientious consumers in San Marcos will aim purchases at “loyal & local businesses” that are calling on City Council to join litigation against Texas over the discriminatory new law; participants will employ   #LoyalAndLocalSMTX to share on social media

SAN MARCOS, TX — San Martians will use both social media & their purchasing dollars this week to convey gratitude to “loyal & local” businesses: those calling on City Council to join litigation against Texas over Senate Bill 4, or the “show me your papers” law, which they decry as radically discriminatory and unconstitutional.

Over 500 local signatures have been collected on a petition urging San Marcos City Council to fight SB 4 in court, and yesterday the editorial board of the University Star — a publication once helmed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson — endorsed that call, also.

Mano Amiga, a group advocating for immigrants’ human rights, invites the broader community to shop at these establishments that week, expressing appreciation to employees & owners, & also sharing participation in Loyal & Local Business Appreciation Week via social media (#LoyalAndLocalSMTX):

Last weekend, Mano Amiga helped mobilize urgent support for a Dripping Springs father of five, who was arrested for driving without a license. Despite 30 years of living in Texas, a masonry business owner & faithful church-goer, Mr. Martin Guerrero was jailed & due to enter deportation proceedings Sunday morning.  However, as KVUE reports, this “ICE detainer issue ended with a Hays County father reunited with his family after hundreds protested for his release.”
