SAN MARCOS, TX — San Martians will use both social media & their purchasing dollars this week to convey gratitude to “loyal & local” businesses: those calling on City Council to join litigation against Texas over Senate Bill 4, or the “show me your papers” law, which they decry as radically discriminatory and unconstitutional.

Over 500 local signatures have been collected on a petition urging San Marcos City Council to fight SB 4 in court, and yesterday the editorial board of the University Star — a publication once helmed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson — endorsed that call, also.

Mano Amiga, a group advocating for immigrants’ human rights, invites the broader community to shop at these establishments that week, expressing appreciation to employees & owners, & also sharing participation in Loyal & Local Business Appreciation Week via social media (#LoyalAndLocalSMTX):

Root Cellar Café;  Tantra Coffeehouse;   Rhea’s Ice Cream;  Wake the Dead Coffeehouse;  The Good Stuff Community Store;  The Manske Roll Bakery;  Dahlia Woods Gallery;  Bower Bird Antiques & Curiosities;   Dixie Cream Artisan Donuts;   Gil’s Broiler;  WANderLust;  El Sabor de Mi Tierra;  Vagabond Vintage Clothes;  Romero’s Junk in da Trunk;  Rogelio’s Restaurant;  El Charro Tapatío;  Santi’s Tacos;  Rio Claro Studio;  Cafe Azteca;  218 Co-op Gallery;  Lauren’s WildFlour Bakery;  Steger’s Chiffonade;  Cakes by Robyn;  Eye of the Dog Studio;  Bad Boy Books;  Jo’s Cafe;  Redbud Roasters;  Jo on the Go Coffee Shop; Del Prado Dietz PLLC; Salud Massage & Healing Arts;  Alvin Ord’s Sandwich Shop;  Classic Tattoo;  Paper Bear Heartworks Co.;  KnD’s;  AKYA-AVEDA Concept Salon;  Herbert’s Taco Hut;  On Paws Pet Service; Cafe on the Square; Gabrielle Moore, REALTOR; The Law Offices of Ivan Friedman; & PINK Consulting.

Local businesses wishing to endorse the call for City Council to take a moral stand against SB 4 — joining neighbors San Antonio and Austin, as well as several towns smaller than San Marcos, in suing Texas over the most extreme anti-immigrant law of the Trump era — may contact Karen Muñoz at KAM unoz16@gmail.com to join the Loyal & Local list.

Last weekend, Mano Amiga helped mobilize urgent support for a Dripping Springs father of five, who was arrested for driving without a license. Despite 30 years of living in Texas, a masonry business owner & faithful church-goer, Mr. Martin Guerrero was jailed & due to enter deportation proceedings Sunday morning.  However, as KVUE reports, this “ICE detainer issue ended with a Hays County father reunited with his family after hundreds protested for his release.”
