The safety of pedestrians on Chestnut has been an issue expressed in the community.
Chestnut Street between Walnut and Acorn will be closed to through traffic daily, during daytime working hours, until mid-January for construction of a sidewalk that will increase pedestrian safety in an area where residents have raised concerns.
Homeowners in the construction area will continue to have access to their driveways during the project.
The safety of pedestrians on Chestnut has been an issue expressed in the community, and the City Council approved construction of a sidewalk along the most unsafe portion at their Dec. 5 meeting to close the gap between two sections of existing sidewalk.
Contractors will build 340 linear feet of 5-foot wide sidewalk at a construction cost of $59,871. Construction is set to begin Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on weather.
