San Marcos, TX – In honor of Mother’s Day, the Price Center is seeking original artworks from local artists for an upcoming Community Art Show titled “Dear Mom.” Work selected for the show will hang in the Center’s Main Parlor and 1910 Rooms from early May through mid-June.
“There are so many ways to interpret the idea of motherhood from literal images of our moms to animals, flowers, and all symbolism — old and new – that reminds us of motherhood,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. “I look forward to seeing what the creative minds in our area do with the idea.”
“Dear Mom” will be the fourth juried show open to all area artists to hang in the Center’s Rotating Community Gallery spaces. The Rotating Galleries, which are free and open daily Mon. – Fri., and in the evening and on weekends by event, are funded in part for the second year in a row through a grant from the San Marcos Arts Commission.
The show is open to all ages, skill levels and media. Interested artists are invited to submit up to two works for consideration. There is no fee to enter; however, if the work is for sale, a 20% commission goes to the Center. As always, all artwork must be an original creation and family friendly. Works for consideration may be dropped off at the Center Mon., April 30 through Fri., May 4.
Opportunities to express oneself creatively at the Price Center are available daily. From dance and musical offerings to theater and film offerings to the gallery shows, a porcelain painting club, a quilting bee and one-off art workshops.
The Center’s monthly Third Thursday activities celebrate all of the creative arts and offer more chances to enjoy them while meeting friends and neighbors.
