San Marcos City Council To Hold Special Meeting To Discuss Demolition Of Historic Structures Process, Mermaid Parade Funding

The San Marcos City Council has called a special meeting for Thursday, June 27, to discuss issues related to the demolition of historic structures and mermaid parade in-kind funding.

The agenda was posted on Monday, June 24, at 3:50 PM and will not include a public comment period or questions from the public and press.

According to the agenda, the council will meet and hold a discussion regarding demolition of historic structures and consider approval of Ordinance 2019-19, on emergency, with only one reading, establishing a waiting period for issuance of demolition permits for historic structures.

The council will also provide direction to the city staff and the Historic Preservation Commission to provide recommendations pertaining to the demolition of historic structures and hold a discussion regarding mermaid parade in-kind funding and provide direction to staff.

According to a memo from City Manager, Bert Lumbreras, the city’s in-kind costs for the event are projected to total $19,240; however, Lumbreras is suggesting the city waive $6,240 in fees. A full breakdown of the requested items and costs can be read below. 

The estimated cost of this year’s parade is projected to be a total of $33,665.00 according to a budget spreadsheet included with the interactive agenda.
