San Marcos Discovery Center Holds First Sustainability Fair With Spring Plant Sale

The San Marcos Discovery Center will hold the first Sustainability Fair in partnership with the biannual Native Plant Sale on Saturday, April 6, 430 Riverside Dr, 9 AM – 4 PM.

The Sustainability Fair will showcase 19 organizations that enhance sustainable living in the San Marcos area. Visitors are encouraged to interact with each group to see how they can get involved with local sustainable efforts.

From 11 AM to 2:30 PM, there will be a series of 12 mini-workshops given by local environmental leaders on topics ranging from rain gardens and green roofs, to the basics of composting and growing mushrooms for ecological remediation.

The local restaurant, Binge Kitchen, will be catering this event. There will be 100 sandwiches given out free of charge with a ticket from gate greeters at 9:00 AM and at noon while supplies last. More sandwiches, sides and drinks will be available to purchase throughout the event.

The accompanying Native Plant Sale will offer a great selection of native plants, herbs, and vegetables for your garden.

Admission is free for all ages. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Discovery Center’s Native Plant Program.

For more information, call the Discovery Center at 512.393.8327 or visit www.sanmarcostx.gov/DiscoveryCenter.
