A San Marcos High School was arrested Friday morning after bringing a handgun on campus.
According to a notification from San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District, a staff member at the high school called an administrator to a classroom for a student, who was suspected of being under the influence.
The student was taken to a secured setting with the School Resource Officer and was searched.
According to officials, the student notified campus administration that he or she was in possession of a handgun. The San Marcos Police Department arrested the student.
SMPD and the San Marcos High School administrators followed safety protocols and identified the situation as an isolated incident. The campus returned to their regular schedule for the remainder of the school day.
