San Marcos Planning Manager, GIS Analyst Honored By Texas State

“The City is very fortunate to collaborate with an extremely talented pool of Geography students, faculty, and staff at Texas State and looks forward to future projects,” said Gilfillan.

Planning Manager Abigail Gilfillan and GIS Analyst Phillicia Phillips received an award for Outstanding Support from a Governmental Agency from the Texas State Geography Department recently.

The City of San Marcos Planning and Development Services department supports class projects, is an ongoing participant in GIS Day, and provides meaningful internship opportunities to planning and GIS students.

Gilfillan and Phillips worked with Dr. Yuan’s GIS Implementation and Design classes during the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters gathering and analyzing data about San Marcos neighborhoods.

“Both student groups did great work that we are excited to use and build upon when starting the upcoming Neighborhood Character Study / Small Area Plans,” Gillfillan said.  “The City is very fortunate to collaborate with an extremely talented pool of Geography students, faculty, and staff at Texas State and looks forward to future projects.”
