SAN MARCOS – On Thursday, September 16, at approximately 11:30 a.m. the San Marcos Police Department responded to a call to assist EMS at The Lyndon apartments, 200 Springtown Way. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male identified as 20-year-old Austin Salyer.
A preliminary investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division determined Salyer likely suffered a gunshot wound while he slept as a result of a firearm that was negligently discharged from a neighboring apartment. Investigators collected evidence from the scene and seized the firearm involved.
A suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation and review by the District Attorney’s Office, has been identified and interviewed related to Salyer’s death.
