San Marcos Teenager Accused Of Lying To Police About Fatal Accident

Despite the new evidence, Hernandez has insisted she told the truth and kept to the original story.

A 19-year-old woman from San Marcos has been arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault with a vehicle in regards to a fatal accident from 2015.

Lorena Hernandez has been arrested in regard to the fatal accident that killed one of her friends, Ruben Trevino Jr. and injured two others. The accident happened on Jan. 1, 2015 when Hernandez was 17.

According to police, the vehicle took a curve on Staples Road near Old Bastrop Highway at an unsafe speed, struck a pole and powerbox and then rolled several times. Trevino Jr. and two others were ejected from the vehicle.

Although the speed limit for the road was 55, the speedometer was reported by investigators to have been locked at 80 mph.

The survivors, who had all been drinking at a party, told investigators that Trevino was the driver of the vehicle.

However, the Trevino family’s private investigator submitted Facebook messages that indicated Hernandez was the driver. The Texas Rangers continued the investigation.

One of the victims said she had received a message over Facebook from Hernandez that stated she had been the one behind the wheel that night.

Despite the new evidence, Hernandez has insisted she told the truth and kept to the original story.

Police said, based on how close the driver’s seat was to the steering wheel, Trevino could not have been the one behind the wheel. Review of the photos of the seen, investigators determined that Trevino’s injuries were not conducive to having been the driver of the vehicle.

Hernandez was arrested Wednesday night in Hays County Jail on two counts of intoxicated assault and one count of intoxicated manslaughter. Each charge has a $10,000 bond on it.
