San Marcos, TreeFolks Partner To Host Final “Trees For The Blanco” Event

The City of San Marcos announced Thursday, Feb. 7, a partnership with TreeFolks to host the final “Tress for the Blanco” event.

With the help of 150 volunteers, the city and TreeFolks will plant native trees in Blanco Riverwalk.

The planting event will take place on FEb. 16 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The tree planting is part of an ongoing riparian restoration project in the area, which was damaged during the 2015 floods.

According to the City of San Marcos, TreeFolks is providing 1,200 to 1,500 seedlings to the restoration effort and coordinating volunteers to help plant the trees on city property.

“It’s stunning to observe the transformative power of water and the rapid changes the land undergoes in the healing process,” said San Marcos Urban Forester Kelly Eby. “These volunteer efforts and the generous supply of so many trees, go a long way toward restoring the riparian habitat in our city.”

TreeFolks empowers Central Texans to build stronger communities through planting and caring for trees.  Since 1989, TreeFolks has engaged thousands of volunteers to plant more than 1.6 million trees on public and private lands. These trees provide clean air and water, habitat for wildlife, and shelter from the hot Texas sun. Through volunteerism, participants deepen their connection to their environment and the Central Texas community. 

Since the 2015 Memorial Day Weekend Flood, TreeFolks has worked with local communities, volunteers and businesses to help the Blanco River Ecosystem recovery. The program is a multi-year reforestation campaign.
