SAN MARCOS – The City of San Marcos recommends residents shelter in place due to a gas leak reported on Belvin from Bishop to Dixon and Clara Street. Crews are currently working on the repair, which is estimated to be completed by 5 p.m.
Although no one in the area is being evacuated, city officials suggest that residents in the immediate area should shelter in place and people avoid the area.
At 4:04 p.m. the City of San Marcos updated residents in a tweet, informing the public that CenterPoint Energy has made progress toward repairing the leak and estimates all work to be completed by 5 p.m. Additionally, CenterPoint Energy has been monitoring the area with detectors and has not reported any concerns for those living in the immediate area.
At 4:17 p.m. the city provided an additional update, stating that crews have confirmed that all holes in the gas line have been capped or plugged.
Residents in the area have complained of suffering from headaches due to the strong odor.
