SMPD investigates fatal hit-and-run

SAN MARCOS – On Sunday, September 26 at approximately 10:32 p.m. the San Marcos Police Department responded to the scene of a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 49-year-old woman.

SMPD responded to reports of a driver hitting a pedestrian on the crosswalk at 110 E. MLK Dr. and fleeing from the scene.

Officers identified the victim of the hit-and-run as Nelda Peddle, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Hays County Justice of the Peace Maggie Moreno.

Based on a description provided by witnesses, officers located the suspect vehicle, and the driver, Armando Cubriel Jr. (DOB 08/12/1982), was arrested.

He is currently in the Hays County Jail and faces charges of Intoxication Manslaughter, Resisting Arrest, Accident Involving Death, Tampering with Evidence, and Obstruction or Retaliation.

  • When someone talks about how great illegals are and that they work cheap, show them this. The costs of allowing these criminals to roam free are things like this which real people pay. Anyone who ever hired this lowlife should be sued for making this possible.

    • I know who the offender is, he's at least 3rd generation American. The article said nothing of his citizenship. But you know that. Regardless of your opinion on hiring illegals, which this has nothing to do with, at least have some dignity and honesty in your word, otherwise your opinion invalid.

  • I love my mother so much, it breaks me knowing this was the way of her death. She was not just the victim of a hit and run she was such a beautiful individual who would give everything to help anyone in need. She could put a smile on your face and make you feel so good about yourself. She truly was a gift to this world.
