TDS Begins New Charge For Mattress Disposal At Landfill

Texas Disposal Systems has instituted new handling fees for mattresses and box springs taken to the landfill for disposal.

The new handling fees are $12.50 per mattress or box spring, and $25 for king sized mattresses or box springs. The fee for disposing of all other material in the landfill remains $45 per ton.

The new fee does not apply to bulk pickups or to people using the community clean up.

Texas Disposal Systems and the City of San Marcos provide residential solid waste services to San Marcos residential customers, including:

  • Weekly Garbage Collection at the curb
  • Bi-Weekly Single Stream Recycling and Green Waste service for single family residences
  • Weekly Single Stream Recycling for apartment complexes
  • Bulky pickup of yard waste, furniture, and certified Freon-free appliances for residential garbage customers (3 cubic yards- 4 times a year at no extra charge!) Bulk waste pickups are available the first full week and third week of each month on their regular trash service day and called in the previous business day by 2 p.m. 
  • Community Clean-Ups this spring April 8 and May 13. Located at 750 River Rd from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.  San Marcos residential and multifamily garbage customers can bring bulk items, brush, household hazardous waste, tires, appliances and electronics.
