On September 17, State Sen. Donna Campbell, M.D. submitted a letter to the City of San Marcos Historic Preservation Commission encouraging them to designate Cape’s Dam as a historic landmark.
“The mill race which was greatly augmented by the water held by the dam, has for many years benefited countless wounded warriors from around the nation who are being treated at San Antonio Military Medical Center,” said Campbell. “As the chair of our Senate Veterans Affairs and Border Security Committee, I find this aspect of the dam’s contribution to the lives of our veterans extremely important.”
Additionally, Campbell stated her office had been contacted by several San Marcos citizens who have concerns about the questionable future of Capes Dam and it’s historical importance in Hays County and Texas.
