Texas State Has Three Players Named Sun Belt All-Conference

by, Jen Lawson

MOBILE, Ala. – The Sun Belt Conference announced members of the SBC All-Conference teams Tuesday night and Texas State had three players receive recognition. Sophomore pitcher Randi Rupp was named First-Team All-Conference while Corrina Liscano and Taylor Webb were second-team selections.

Fifteen players were named each to the first and second-team. This is the second straight First-Team All-SBC selection for Rupp and it was the first time that Webb and Liscano had been honored by the conference.

Rupp finished the 2016 regular season with a 26-10 overall record and 1.59 ERA. Her 293 strikeouts has matched her freshman campaign total and it also ranks her third in the nation. Rupp’s 26 victories leads the Sun Belt Conference and tops her previous career-high of 24 in a season. She played an integral role down the stretch as Texas State won 11 out of its last 12 conference games including the last 10.

The Mont Belvieu, Texas native finished the regular season with 18 complete games and nine solo shutouts. Her opponents hit just .186 against her and throughout 215.1 innings of work Rupp allowed just 59 walks.

Liscano was named a second-team pick after finishing the 2016 conference season with a team-high .361 batting average. She led the team in home runs with six in her first season with the Bobcats and she was also a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen bases. She started and played in all 54 games at third base for Texas State.

This season, Liscano proved to be the hardest to strikeout on the Bobcat team as she registered 25 walks and 15 hit by pitches compared to just 13 strikeouts. Liscano currently is third on the team in at bats with 140 and total hits with 43. Her 31 RBIs so far this year is a team-high alongside Ariel Ortiz.

Webb has had a solid sophomore season as she leads the Bobcats overall with a .315 batting average including a .354 mark in conference play. In SBC play, Webb leads the ‘Cats with 23 total hits and a .538 slugging percentage.

Overall, Webb has started in 52 games this season. She has an on base percentage of .442 and leads the team with three sacrifice flies. Webb also leads the Bobcats with nine doubles.

Texas State will begin play Wednesday evening with a game against the winner of No. 6 Troy and No. 7 UT Arlington. Overall, the Bobcats are 5-1 this year against those two teams. A complete tournament schedule can be found at www.sunbeltsports.org.
