Two High-Achieving Texan Students Earn Coveted Principal’s Award

Students in grades 9 thru 12 are looking forward to summer, having set a high standard for their futures in high school and beyond Wimberley High School.

The 2018-19 WHS Academic Awards ceremony is the perfect opportunity for teachers and administrators to recognize hard work and Texan excellence. Among the highlights, seniors Jillian Garcia and Evan Mayhew earned the 2018-19 Principal’s Award.

Every year, WHS Principal, Jason Valentine bestows the Principal’s Award upon two students in the top quarter of the senior class, who have had outstanding high school careers. The selection process includes a deep dive into credentials of so many accomplished students.

“I look at resumes, transcripts and extracurricular participation as qualifiers for this award. The recipients are usually students who have enjoyed many successes and represent Wimberley High with great pride,” said Valentine.  “Jillian and Evan are both great students and it has been a distinct honor to work with them as seniors in the Class of 2019.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with both of them these last four years.”

Garcia has a fall semester GPA of 4.4, participating in a challenging course load of Pre-AP and AP courses. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Leo Club, Rotary Youth Leadership Award and National Hispanic Recognition Program.

Garcia also is a member of the Texan Stars Dance Team, Yearbook and boasts multiple state championships in journalism during her Wimberley High School career. She plans to attend University of North Texas in the fall.
