The Texas Department of Transportation is gearing up for potential icing on area roadways next week. TxDOT crews will pretreat Austin highways beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 14, in advance of storms expected to arrive in the early evening on Monday.
The crews will start pretreating activities on I-35, then move on to other major highways in the region. Pretreating dry roads in advance of a storm discourages ice or snow from sticking to the pavement. Work teams and trucks will then be placed on standby, to respond to snow and ice situations, as the need arises.
The Austin District is working closely with the National Weather Service to monitor weather conditions for any potential winter weather.
