Spoetzl Brewery, maker of Shiner Beer, donated $25,000 to the United Way of Hays County Flood Disaster Recovery Fund this week through the Shiner’s Got Your Back Program.
“Shiner’s Got Your Back program was launched in 2013 in the wake of the Moore, Oklahoma tornado and the West, Texas explosion with the purpose of responding quickly with financial support for disaster relief efforts in small towns (like Shiner) in Texas and bordering states,” said Jimmy Mauric, Brewmaster for Spoetzl Brewery.
The $25,000 donation is the largest single corporate donation to the United Way of Hay County Flood Disaster Recovery Fund since it was created immediately following the Memorial Day Weekend Floods in Hays and Caldwell Counties., said Michelle Harper, President/CEO of United Way of Hays County.
The fund benefits partners, agencies and other organizations that are providing direct assistance to flood victims throughout Hays and Caldwell Counties.
Priorities for the disbursal of funds are to fund agencies and organizations who are assisting flood survivors who have immediate housing needs, focusing on survivors with no flood insurance, and initiatives that support the elderly, children, disabled and single household families with basic needs, housing and long term recovery, Harper explained,
”Working with city, county, state, national, and local long-term recovery efforts, future funds from the United Way of Hays County 2015 Flood Relief Fund will be promptly dispersed and a long-term recovery allocation plan is being developed in collaboration with all stakeholders,” she said.
“The generous donation from the Spoetzl Bewery will allow United Way of Hays County to continue funding some short-term relief but begin focusing on the long-term recovery of our community,” said Harper. “To have a company not located here step up and donate to our communities in need is heartwarming to see. We need more donations like this one to be able to help all of our friends and neighbors in Hays and Caldwell Counties.”

www.unitedwayhaysco.org/give or text “FLOODS” to 41444 to make a donation. Donors then follow the prompts to make a donation. “One hundred percent of these donations will stay in Hays County, directly assisting flood victims,” Harper explained.
Those wishing to donate by check can do so by sending donations to UWHC, P.O. BOX 1728, San Marcos, TX 78667. Donors are asked to write “Disaster Recovery Fund” on checks to ensure that donation goes directly to agencies and organizations providing services to flood victims.
