Week At A Glance: A Look At Summertime With San Marcos CISD

San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District is making strides to engage its students in learning every day.

San Marcos CISD has nearly 8,000 students enrolled between its high school, two middle schools and six elementary schools according to the district’s website. 

Here is a quick look at what SMCISD students and staff were up to the week of July 8 thru July 13.

On July 10, SMCISD announced Goodnight ELA teacher Brittany Titus is one of 26 SMCISD educators participating in the district’s 2019 Teacher Externship Program in collaboration with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce and Workforce Solutions.

The summer program allows teachers to build partnerships with local businesses to enrich the classroom to career connections made for students. Ms. Titus is currently learning the intricacies of the Texas State Athletics Department.

The San Marcos CISD’s Summer Step Up Camp includes math, reading, writing and storytelling stations keep students active learners through the summer months.

Last week, San Marcos CISD 4th and 5th-grade students spent time at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos participating in the NASA Future Aerospace-engineers & Mathematicians Academy. SMCISD collaborates with Centro & TX State to offer this free summer camp.

In collaboration with Texas State University, San Marcos CISD announced on July 12, it was proud to host a summer camp created for students with Autism. Students from around the region are participating in the month-long camp that includes a wide range of sensory learning activities.

San Marcos HS is excited to welcome Steven Pinchback as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach for the Rattlers. Pinchack joins Rattler Nation with 14 years of experience after coaching at DeSoto and Lehman high schools, respectively.

During his time in DeSoto, Pinchback was a part of two state championships in boys basketball. At Lehman HS, Pinchback led the boys team to the most season wins and district wins in the program’s history. Coach Pinchback is married to Lisa Pinchback and father to Indanesia, Zade and Xavius.

Joining Pinchback’s staff is Coach Jason Napoli. Napoli is entering his 17th season in education and athletics. He will be joining the Rattler staff with three state championships of his own in three different sports: basketball, football, and track.

All state championships were earned during his time at DeSoto HS. Napoli will be teaching Business Information Management at SMHS. Coach Napoli is married to Whitney Napoli and father to Nathan and Claire.
