Kyle Welcomes New Semi-Professional Soccer Team

Kyle, TX – This week, Kyle welcomed its first semi-professional sports team home. The City of Kyle is proud to be the new hometown of the Texas Premier Soccer League’s newest sanctioned team, the Central Texas Lobos.

City leaders held a brief ceremony on Thursday, July 14, at the Gregg-Clarke Park soccer complex in celebration of the team’s arrival to Kyle. City leaders, community members, local media, and city staff took part in the welcome event.

“Becoming a recreation and event destination in Central Texas is one of Kyle’s top priorities to support our city’s economic development. Because of this, we are very excited to be the hometown of the new Central Texas Lobos,” Mayor Pro Tem Fogley said about the team’s move to Kyle.

The ceremony featured a team announcement, jersey unveiling and remarks from selected guests. Speakers included Kyle Mayor Pro Tem Damon Fogley, City Manager Scott Sellers, and Lobos team manager David Walding.

The Texas Premier Soccer League is an amateur outdoor men’s soccer league founded by former pro player and head coach of the Houston Hurricanes, Brendan Keyes. They are sanctioned by US Club Soccer and affiliated with the USSF and FIFA. Each team is individually operated, and David Walding founded the Central Texas Lobos, who have now found their home in Kyle, TX.

City Manager Scott Sellers said, “We’re proud to welcome the Central Texas Lobos to their new home in Kyle.  This gives our community a new way to gather, adds cultural value, and shows that Kyle is expanding in a way that makes people want to be a part of this city.”

Tryouts for the team will be held on July 23 from 1-5 p.m. at Gregg-Clarke Park. The team’s season is expected to begin in August. Stay updated on the Central Texas Lobos at http://www.facebook.com/CTLobos or find more team information at http://bernardokohler.org/zuzeca/.
