Women’s Basketball Wins Second Straight Conference Game

By: Donavan Jackson

The Texas State women’s basketball team remains undefeated in conference play after its 79-65 victory Saturday over the Georgia Southern Eagles.

Along with remaining undefeated in conference play, Coach Zenarae Antoine was most satisfied with how she was able to give playing time to players that don’t play major minutes.

The Bobcats gained the lead early and never gave it up, with their biggest lead reaching 20 points.

Raven Burns, junior guard, scored 12 points of the bench shooting five for ten from the field. Erika May, freshman guard, scored eight points in 19 minutes.

“Those two probably stuck out the most,” Antoine said. “But all the women that played for us tonight did a great job.”

Ayriel Anderson, junior guard, and Erin Peoples, junior guard, continued to lead the Bobcats, both finishing in double digits. Anderson converted three of five 3-pointers for 16 points while Peoples made six of 11 shot for 13 point.

Antoine attributed Jacqueline Jeffcoat’s, senior forward, positive margin in rebounding to hard work and hustle in the paint. The Bobcats out-rebounded Georgia Southern, 42-30.

The Bobcats have one more road game at Georgia State Monday before hosting their first home conference game Jan. 8 against the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans.
