San Marcos Corridor News is back to bring you the Corridor Weekly News Recap, videos covering the biggest stories in Hays County every week. I’m Jirah Simpson, let’s dive into the news for the week of April 25th from the Innovation Corridor.
Starting off a week full of breaking news, the Buda Police Department, assisted by Texas DPS, worked an accident that occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday, April 25, that
resulted in one fatality and the hospitalization of a 10-year-old and 44-year-old.
The front seat passenger of a vehicle involved in the accident, 42-year-old Briceida Denova Garcia, was found to be deceased at the scene.
On Monday, April 25, the San Marcos Police Department
responded to I-35 near the 210-mile marker regarding a vehicle collision. Emergency crews arrived on the scene and discovered a white Chevrolet truck flipped on its roof in the southbound lanes.
Initial reports from police show the driver of the truck fled the scene on foot. The truck was then struck by a grey Honda Accord. The sole occupant of the Honda, identified as 54-year-old Myron Liggins of Converse Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers utilized a drone to search the area surrounding the crash for the driver of the Chevrolet truck. The driver, 34-year-old Rodolfo Lopez Jr. of Buda, was located in a nearby parking lot and taken into custody by SMPD without incident. Lopez was arrested and has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and causing an Accident Involving Death.
A man from Giddings, Texas, was
convicted of Capital Murder for killing Trey Allen in San Marcos in 2019. 26-year-old Jon Jervis was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Tuesday, April 26, in a Hays County District Court.
On June 5, 2019, Jervis and Lapear Will-rich broke into an apartment at the Villages of Telluride and killed Allen with a shotgun before fleeing the scene. SMPD detectives successfully tracked down the two suspects, leading to their arrest. Willrich’s indictment remains pending.
The employee also noticed the individuals were using multiple gift cards to make numerous separate purchases. 29-year-old Austin resident, Miguel Angel Vidal Flores, was arrested for Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument, a third degree felony and 22-year-old Austin resident Alberto Carlos Alonso Robina, arrested and charged with Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument and Tampering with Physical Evidence, a third degree felony.
The Hays County Sheriff Office is asking for the public’s help in the
search of a missing teen. On April 19th, 16-year-old Davion Lewis was deemed missing after he left his home in Kyle and did not return. Lewis is African American, 5’10” and approximately 130 pounds.

Concerned citizens spoke out about the placement of a warehouse at Victory Gardens and violations from Texas Aviation Partners, along with a traffic safety concern at West Hutchinson and Fredericks-burg Street.
The San Marcos community is invited to a Public Meeting on May 5 at 6 p.m., to discuss upcoming Sessom Projects with City Staff.
The Hays County Local Health Department has
reported 147 active cases and zero COVID-related fatalities in this weeks update.
