Gumby’s will be giving away free pizza slices on Wednesday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for its grand reopening at their new location on 312 W. Hopkins St.

The restaurant is inviting everyone to come by for lunch and bring their family or friends to see the restaurant’s new location and enjoy the spacious patio area.

Gumby’s is a pizzeria owned by two Texas State alumnus, Adam and Forest Higdons, and their father, John Higdons. The restaurant moved to a new location to create a better dining experience for customers by having a spacious patio area and closer to downtown.

Adam Higdons, one of the restaurant owners, said they moved to a new location for different reasons; one of those reasons was the family wanted to own a section of land to call their own and not have to rent a space for the restaurant.

“I haven’t left San Marcos since I came here, and I plan to retire here,” said Higdons. “It felt right to invest in something that can grow in the next 30 years or so.”

Another reason for the move was to make New York style pizza dough the correct way.

The new location gives the restaurant space to create their own dough, have more ovens and larger refrigeration for their food products and quality ingredients.

“I’m a firm believer in not putting out anything unless its right, so we train our employees how the pizza is supposed to be prepared,” said Higdons. “We even plan on bringing Detroit-styled pan pizza soon…but after everyone has the proper training.”

Gumby’s, a San Marcos small business, also takes pride in helping other local businesses. Higdons said he’s a firm believer in keeping thing local and helping other small businesses.

“Everything from our t-shirt designer to our printing and social marketing has been done from someone here,” said Higdons.

Gumby’s presents itself as a proud family-owned restaurant that is here to stay for the long haul and hopes to continue having deep ties with the San Marcos community.
