San Marcos CISD Hires Assistant Superintendent For Human Resources

The San Marcos CISD School Board is proud to announce the hiring of Dr. Marcela Baez as the new Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.

Dr. Baez will begin her career with the district this summer after spending the last 20 years in a variety of leadership roles in Houston ISD.

Along with her experience as an administrator, Baez has also served as an adjunct professor/lecturer at the University of Houston and Houston Baptist University in their educational leadership departments.

During her career in Houston ISD, Baez served as a 6-12 principal for the last seven years, director, assistant principal, dean of students, dean of instruction, Title coordinator, teacher and coach.

Baez founded the School of Pharmacy Technology and led a leadership development program for aspiring principals and first-year principals.

This past school year in her principal role, Baez created a cohort that allowed 21 of her high school seniors to graduate high school with a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree simultaneously these students also received industry certification as Pharmacy Technicians. 

All of her graduates earned at least 30+ hours of college dual credit.

Dr. Baez earned her Ed. D. in Professional Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Houston – Central and her M.Ed in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.

Baez also went through the Strategic Marketing Management program at Rice University and earned her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Houston – Central.

I’m honored to work with a prestigious team of teachers and leaders who are committed to better serving the needs of all of our stakeholders while maximizing student achievement. I have a genuine passion for children, teaching, and learning and I am excited to become a part of the San Marcos community,” Baez said.

In her free time, Baez enjoys running, outdoor activities, and spending time with her family to include her three children (Sabrina, Alex and Joey) who are all college graduates.
