Arredondo Campaign Releases Second Political Ad On Derrick

The Arredondo for City Council campaign released a second ad against councilwoman Melissa Derrick yesterday.

The ad features quotes from Councilwoman Derrick and concentrates on her decision and vote regarding the Becerra/Dixie Cream Donuts lease.

On April 6, 2018, Derrick sent an email to Charles Daniels, Interim City Manager, Jamie Lee Case, City Clerk and Steve Parker, Assistant City Manager requesting additional information about Becerra’s lease, monies owed, Anderson’s lease and what other city leasee’s were currently paying for their property. According to the documents in the video, Parker forwarded Derricks email to Michael Cosentino, San Marcos City Attorney.

In Cosentino’s reply to Derrick, he warns in large, bold, all caps and red text at the top that the email includes legal advice and is to be considered attorney-client privilege.

Cosentino goes on to warn Derrick, “As we gather additional information regarding your inquiry to staff on behalf of Ruben Becerra, please keep in mind the following provision in Section 2.424 (c) of the San Marcos Code of Ethics.” See actual email below.

Additionally, the video points out the $90k in state and federal IRS tax liens the Becerra’s and their businesses have on them including the building that sits on the city leased property which now houses Yogurt In Love.

“It was astounding to me the councilwoman continues to hide the facts from voters,” said Juan Miguel Arredondo, candidate for City Council Place 6. “San Marcos deserves more than a want-to-be career politician who hasn’t realized the coverup is more dishonest than telling the truth and owning up to her mistakes.”

Corridor News has reached out to Councilwoman Derrick for a statement but has not received a response as of yet. This article will be updated if and when it is received.
