KYLE — Kyle Emergency Crews responded to a large structure fire at Papa Jack’s and Jack’s Axes on Center Street in the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 27.

Kyle Police Department personnel discovered smoke coming from Papa Jack’s at around 1:52 a.m. and called it in to dispatch. Kyle Fire Department crews were quickly on the scene to start fighting the fire.

Initially, the Fire Department began fighting the fire from inside the structure before having to move out for safety reasons and fight the fire externally.

Neighboring agencies including the Buda Fire Department, San Marcos Fire Department, North Hays Fire Rescue, South Hays Fire Department, Austin Fire Department, San Marcos Hays County EMS, Kyle Police Department, Hays County CERT Volunteers, and Kyle Public Works Department were on-site assisting.

Both Papa Jack’s and Jack’s Axes roofs collapsed from the damage and are considered a total loss. But no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and investigators do not know when the fire started or how long the fire had been burning before it was discovered.

Currently, Center Street is still closed from Front Street to Burleson Street. Residents are asked to avoid the area until the roadways can be reopened.

Due to the proximity of the fire, Kyle City Hall will be closed through Friday, Jan. 28.

This investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
