HAYS COUNTY — Hays CISD, San Marcos CISD and Dripping Springs ISD have announced school closures due to inclement weather that is anticipated to affect Central Texas on Thursday and Friday.

San Marcos CISD said they based the decision off of possible unsafe road conditions, and will close for the safety of staff and students. SMCISD will return to regular district operations on Monday, February 7, 2022.

Dripping Springs ISD will be closed Thursday, February 3 and Friday, February 4. This closure includes all classes, district offices, events, and activities.

All Hays CISD schools and offices are closed on Thursday and Friday. All after school activities are canceled on Thursday. Some limited, previously scheduled after school activities and competitions may be able to occur late Friday afternoon and evening. The district suggests students and parents check with coaches and activity sponsors for the status of individual events.

“Ice and winter precipitation should begin forming in the district on roadways Thursday morning, during what would have been a normal commute time,” Hays CISD said. “Temperatures will likely not get above freezing the entire day on Thursday.”

“For Friday morning, in addition to potential residual ice, wind chills are predicted to be in the single digits during times students would ordinarily have been outside at bus stops,” Hays CISD said. “Temperatures on Friday will likely remain below freezing until the afternoon.”
