BREAKING NEWS: San Marcos Police Officer Struck By Drunk Driver

On Saturday evening, May 19 while responding to an incident on IH35 northbound, San Marcos Police Officer Claudia Cormier was struck by a vehicle driven by Neil Sheehan (12/16/1960) of Flower Mound, Texas that resulted in severe injuries to the Officer.

At approximately 9:39 p.m., San Marcos Police Dispatch received a call about a traffic hazard with items in the roadway on IH35 northbound, just north of the McCarty Overpass near the 202 Mile Marker. Officer Cormier, a 3-year police officer, responded and arrived at 9:45 p.m.

Shortly thereafter, dispatch began receiving 911 calls that an officer had been struck by another vehicle in the same area. Patrol officers responded and found Officer Cormier with severe, life-threatening injuries after being struck by a 2000 Ford Expedition driven by Sheehan. 

Officer Cormier was transported to Seton-Hays in Kyle where she underwent emergency surgery. At the writing of this report, she is in stable condition but sedated pending further surgeries.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to assist San Marcos Police in the investigation.

Troopers investigated Sheehan and soon after arrested him for Intoxication Assault on a Public Servant, a second-degree felony, and Failure to Slow Causing Serious Bodily Injury. The Trooper obtained a warrant for his blood and the results are pending.

Sheehan was transported and booked into the Hays County Jail. The collision is being investigated jointly by the San Marcos Police Collision Investigation Team (CIT), as well as the Texas DPS State Crash Team. The investigation is on-going.
