BR3T Marks 2-Year Anniversary Of Memorial Weekend Floods

It has been almost two years to the day since the 2015 Memorial floods swept through San Marcos.
The Blanco River crossed a neighborhood to meet the San Marcos River. Eleven people were killed in Wimberley including two children, a four-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy, who have not been found.
Nine of the victims were swept away, home and all, by the flood waters of the Blanco River. After two years, the Hays County community is still recovering from the disaster.
In October of 2015, the community experienced a second catastrophic flood on All Saint’s Day, Oct. 30. Hays County saw no loss of life, but Austin and San Antonio lost six people to flood waters.
The Blanco River Regional Recovery Team has been working to help those who lost their homes during the 2015 floods. BR3T has helped residents rebuild homes and their lives in the aftermath of the floods.
BR3T has helped over 1000 residents, “but there is still work to be done.”
As part of the two-year anniversary, BR3T is hosting a fundraiser to further help the communities of Hays, Caldwell, Blanco and Guadalupe Counties.
All fundraising funds will go to helping the 2015 flood survivors repair and rebuild their homes.
Those who donate will be recognized for the contribution in the Wimberley View and San Marcos Daily Record on Sunday, June 3rd as part of the 2nd-anniversary tribute to the 2015 Memorial Weekend Flood.
