Buda Citizen’s Academy to open registration for the 2022 program

BUDA, TEXAS – Registration for the City of Buda 2022 Citizen’s Academy (BCA) opens immediately and runs through Friday, Jan. 21, 2022. Slots for the BCA fill rapidly, so interested Buda residents should register at their earliest opportunity.

The BCA, which begins early February this year, is a program designed to give participants an inside look at the inter-workings of municipal government operations and services through 2-hour courses (6:30-8:30 p.m.), once per week for 13 weeks.

The courses primarily are held on Thursday evenings at Buda City Hall, with the exception of a Public Works course, which is held 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on a Saturday and includes a tour of the Buda Wastewater Treatment Plant. Only Buda residents may participate in the BCA.

By completing a minimum of 10 of the 13 courses, participants will earn a certificate of completion at a graduation ceremony. “This program is an excellent opportunity for aspiring commissioners or council members to better understand how the city’s departments function and gain an overview of how they are funded,” Isabel Fernandez, executive assistant to the city manager and BCA coordinator, said. “Due to the coronavirus pandemic and conflicts with the new Police Academy offering, we have had to defer the BCA twice, so we are really excited about bringing this valuable program back to our citizens,” she added.

Registration is limited to 20 participants. To secure a position in the 2022 cohort, interested Buda residents will be able to complete an application in person at Buda City Hall, 405 E. Loop St., Buda, TX 78610, or an online application (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d48aeae28a6f94-buda6).
