Hays County reports five new COVID-related fatalities; 2,327 additional recoveries

EDITORIAL NOTE
According to the CDC, the State of Texas and Hays County Public Health all give the same disclaimer on all current counts and totals. “The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a very fluid situation, and it will continue to be. All case numbers and totals are subject to change. As new information becomes available, we will publish those updates.”

Hays County Courthouse, TX – Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) reports five (5) COVID-related fatalities since last Wednesday’s update: a man in his 50s from Dripping Springs, a woman in her 70s from Dripping Springs, a woman in her 50s from Kyle, a man in his 80s from Kyle, and a man in his 60s from San Marcos.

The department also reports 1,010 new lab-confirmed cases along with 21 new hospitalizations and 22 new hospital discharges. There are 2,327 additional persons considered recovered.

The total number of persons considered recovered is 43,292. The current total of lab-confirmed cases for Hays County since the beginning of the pandemic is 49,563. Hays County has 5,812 active cases.

Hays County has had 1,613 total COVID-related hospitalizations and 29 people are currently hospitalized. Of those, 16 people (55%) are unvaccinated. During a routine data audit, the HCLHD removed 50 cases due to out of county or duplicate.

Hays County residents can now upload at-home COVID-19 test results to the local health department here:https://arcg.is/1G4P1r. All information is confidential and no identifying information is collected. While these reports will not be included in the official case counts for Hays County, they will provide a better understanding of community spread.

We remind everyone of some simple measures to help slow the spread of the virus, including frequent hand washing, social distancing and wearing a mask when indoors around large groups of people. Additionally, a COVID-19 vaccine may reduce the risk of severe symptoms or death in those who contract for the virus. Children age 5-11 are eligible to receive pediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
